The Chocolate Scoop – Puigcerda de Catalunya
Chocolates at Puigcerda de Catalunya
By Nancy Todd
You can smell chocolate wafting out the door as you walk by Xocolata Artesana, a chocolate shop on Barcelona Square. In Puigcerda de Catalunya, Regina and I stopped for a quick cup of coffee. With the overpowering aroma of chocolate, we quickly changed our minds to a cup of hot chocolate. Hot chocolate in Spain is the consistency of a thick syrup that one sometimes eats with a spoon.
Orange chocolate, dark, light, mint, and almond flavors are a few of the choices. A fine selection of quality teas and coffees are available and can be enjoyed on the small, round marble tables.
A dispay case of hundreds of chocolate candies overwhelms me. With a profusion of shapes in hearts, circles, birds, triangles, my favorite are the chocolate logs. I buy a bagful of candies to make sure I have covered the highlights. Chocolate candy stoked our energy for the trip back to Barcelona.
