The Scoop Interviews (no. 8): Xavi Montanya, Videographer

Interview by Nancy Todd

After a degree in journalism, Xavi Montanya then pursued studies in video production. We found Xavi through his very entertaining Videos From Barcelona.  They serve as a business card to his company Inquiets  Media.   As a native from Barcelona, Xavi now lives in a quieter city 30 kilometers outside the city. He won Tripfilms yearly contest for excellence.  Xavi’s prize was a trip to the Greek isles documented here.

What is your role in your company?

My company is “Inquiets Media” an online video producer company and we are based in Barcelona.

l. What is the most satisfying part of your work?

As a video producer the best part, most creative, and hardest too, is the shooting journey. Is really nice to walk and shoot in the streets of our city.   Another satisfying aspect of my work is when we recieve the feedback from people like you telling us that our videos are creative, funny, and useful.

2. Why did you decide to start your videos of Barcelona?

We’re a online video production company (Inquiets Media) and we’ve developed Barcelona videos  for our business card. We decided to create a channel on the internet to show the possibilities of our work (production, creativity and social media strategy). On the other hand we feel proud about our city and we like to talk about it.

3. What overlooked gems in Barcelona would you recommend to visitors?

The Frederic Mares Museum is a gem and definitely overlooked.   The museum is quite interesting and quirky.   The location and the surroundings in the medieval neighborhood of the city give it additional interest.   Sant Felip Neri Square is close and historically significant,  obscure and with a peaceful atmosphere.  Information varies, but in this Plaza Franco either bombed or executed people.    In the Born neighborhood, a place that is really special for me is the Textile Museum Cafe    Its a quiet spot in front of the Picasso Museum which many overlook.

4. How do you see the Internet in the future affecting your videos of Barcelona?

I believe the internet will be using more and more videos.

5. What are your favorite foods?

I’ve no simple answer to this question! We’re so lucky because we live with the Mediterranean influence of cooking and have lots of options.  The shellfish rice  is one of my favorite dishes ( I’m not describing paella).   You must order an “Arròs caldós de llamantol” ( lobster broth with rice).  Another cheaper option is “pinxos” or “tapas”.  Barceloneta is a great neighborhood for tapas bars and there are lots of places in Barcelona.  But maybe our trademark dish is bread with tomato.   You can look for the video in our  Videos F rom Barcelona series.
