President Obama’s Ignaguration – Barcelona Event

Regina Winkle Bryan

Regina, Obama Barcelona Event

How did Regina and I celebrate the Ignauration of President Obama?  With five hundred people from countries around the world!  Democrats Abroad sponsored this Barcelona event at Hotel Le Meridiana.  People hugged, cried, clapped, yelled, and also quietly absorbed the monumental event. Two large screen tv’s flanked the rooms relaying the day’s events six hours after the fact.  As George Bush was seen boarding Air Force One for the last time, we all waved, “Bye Bye Bush!”  The band played, we danced and toasted  with cava, Spanish champagne.  “Yes we did!”

A print by Brooklyn artist, Deroy Peraza, limited edition and signed, was raffled.
Titled “We Made History,” this spoke the minds of many throughout the evening. We, in Barcelona, and millions in the world, now feel a renewed hope and inspiration for the road ahead.  I felt a connection to the world at a deeper level than I may have in my hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.  And, I thought about my inspiring friends in the States and missed being with them.
