1. Jan 24th to Feb 6th
Madrid: Gastrofestival –
Gastrofestival celebrates fine food with a programme of public events. City restaurants (some Michelin-starred) offer special set-menus.
2. Feb to June
Barcelona: Guitar Festival
The 2010 festival features concerts by Quimi Portet, John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension and Paco de Lucía. Venues are : Palau de la Música Catalana, L’Auditori and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
3. Now until the 5th of Feb 2011
Noir Barcelona Festival
Noir literature, film, bars, more…..if you love Noir, don’t miss this!
4. Until the 6th of Feb 2011
Canary Islands Festival for classical music.
In 2011, concerts include the Russian National Philharmonic with conductor Vladimir Spivakiv, the Wiener Symphoniker I with Fabio Luisi and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Charles Dutoit.
5. Feb – April 2011
Eat Calcots in Catalonia!
Not a festival so much as a culinary tradition you will not want to miss! Now is the season for sweet grilled onions!
6. Feb 17th -26th
Vermillion Wine – a play in English
A thriller for the theatre in the tradition of The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep
Private eye Ian Sinclair was in love with Rebecca Eckhardt, a schizophrenic who ended up sticking a knife in his ribs. She escapes the asylum and Sinclair must confront madness, betrayal and murder in a world where nothing and no one are what they seem.
Set in 1948 New York, Vermilion Wine is a loving tribute to film noir – with a twist.
Twice produced in New York, it is packed with femme fatales & villains, love & bullets.
