The Scoop on Barcelona is: if you know where to look there are many ways to save big in this expensive city.
Nancy and I are Barcelona locals and always have our eyes peeled for deals and bargains. Here are some of our tips for saving big this summer and fall in the Catalan Capital.

Barcelona Brims with Free and Discount Events This Month!
1. Free Cultural Events – I love this city! There are free concerts, performances, movies and parties all summer long. August and early September are especially good months to enjoy Barcelona’s freebie lineup. The Scoop recommends:
GANDULES’12. Outdoor cinema held at the CCCB in El Raval.
La Festa Major de Gràcia for one of the best Free parties in Spain in August.
La Música als Parcs – Clàssica i Jazz offers free music in many Barcelona parks.

Free Movies at Gandules
2. Cheap Hotel Coupons and Vouchers - One of the most expensive costs when visiting Barcelona is booking a hotel. Expect to spend 80 Euros and up for something in the center. Sniff around before you book though, because there are many deals to be had, especially now with the economic ‘crisis’ in Spain. Hotels.com coupons from VoucherCodes.co.uk could help you explore Barcelona for less. Here you’ll find some great deals on quality hotels in the city (up to 40% off).

3. Beaches - For the time being, Barcelona’s many beaches are free, as are the showers that line them. I’m not a fan of swimming in La Barceloneta, but taking a dip in Marbella, for example, is a nice, free way to spend a day. Watch your bag.
