You need to apologize to your girlfriend? Bigtime? Order candy with your girlfriend’s name inside. Include the word, “Sorry.” And if you really screwed up, throw in a bouquet of white roses. For this custom candy, head to your nearest Barcelona shop, Papabubble. Stores also in Tokoyo, New York City, or Amsterdam.
Regina and I met at yoga, had a delicious lunch, and decided to meander the old medieval neighborhood of Barcelona. We sauntered along, checking out the Christmas lights and windows, joining the festive mood. Upon seeing the name on a store, Papabubble, we had to go in to see what was up.
What was up were bags of candy hanging on the wall. This art nouveau store had the original stenciled tile floor. A candy artisan was crafting hard candy just as it may have been made long ago. With a one half inch wide, long green rope of hard candy, she rapidly whacked off chunks about one half inch long. She offered me a piece of lime candy she was working on.

Yum! In this Barcelona shop, flavors include cinnamon, orange, coconut, cherry, etc. Stacks of jars lined the shelves, some with mixed flavors, some with just one flavor. My favorites were the mille flore candies that had a tiny flower in the middle. That is the style they will make for you with your girlfriend’s name. Or any custom order
And where are the elusive Papabubble and Mamabubble? I plan to invite this couple to my next dinner party. Babybubbles included.

I love this place! Such a beautiful old shop and perfectly setup to observe the candy makers at work from the windows outside. I have passed at night and seen them at work, (must have been christmas time), there is always a crowd watching as well as another waiting for their custom treats inside too.
It’s a special spot! Definitely a place to check out in the Gotic!
