OK, I’ll admit that staying in a Youth Hostel is not my first choice these days. However, if you are on a shoestring budget during your Barcelona stay you might consider saving on accommodations by staying at Ítaca Hostal. Most one or two-star hotels in the city start at €70 a night, which is quite a bit more than the €11-28 you’ll spend at this Barcelona hostel.
Ítaca is perfect for backpackers and solo travellers. The cozy-cool hostel offers 36 beds in four large sparkling shared rooms. Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic zone the hostel is just a stone’s throw away from the Cathedral and other famous gothic sites.
Owners and sisters Cristina and Nuria are very sweet and helpful, and have decked out the place to make it a welcoming communal space. In the dimmed light of the mural-clad lounge area, it’s easy to meet other travelers while relaxing with free coffee or tea, internet, and surround sound reggae music vibrations.

We always stay in hostels…saves you more money for other things…but also I really enjoy the different themes and love the people who I meet there. I’m 52 and my hubby is 55 and we’ve never had a problem staying in any of the ‘youth’ hostels either.
You are right! Youth hotels aren’t just for the young but always the young at heart! Let’ us know of other hostels you like in Spain. Thanks for writing.
